A Fence Builder's Guide to Issaquah Highlands
Issaquah Highlands sits on the hillside above I-90 in the City of Issaquah, next to King County's Grand Ridge Park. The community describes itself as built on New Urbanism principles, with compact, walkable neighborhoods.
For a fence builder, that means small lots, homes close to sidewalks and trails, and plenty of slope.
Two sets of rules
Every fence here answers to the Issaquah Highlands Community Association (IHCA) and to the City of Issaquah. The IHCA's home and landscape changes page says a new fence needs a Fence Installation Notification form. Pre-approved styles and colors carry no review fee.
Our Issaquah Highlands HOA fence guide walks through the published heights, styles, and steps with links to each source.
Issaquah fence rules in brief
The City of Issaquah's Decks & Fences page says residential fences do not need a building permit unless they are in a critical area or more than 6 feet tall. In the Single-Family Duplex zone, a front-yard fence may be up to 4 feet under IMC 18.700.160.
